Friday 21 June at 7:30 pm

Thames Valley Choir specialises in performing songs in four part harmony. You might be thinking of straw boaters and waistcoats, singing songs about Mammy! Let me tell you the world of a capella singing has moved on a lot. Entertainment is a key part of the performance, so that songs by Queen, Billy Joel and Elton John rub shoulders with gospel, love songs and classic favourites.

Also performing will be a ladies choir, Cantata Conviva. They were established two years ago, and their repertoire covers a range from Mendelssohn to Pentatonix via Welsh lullabies, and everything in between. They rehearse in Twyford and look forward to entertaining their local community. There will also be a chance to hear a quartet or two from the choir, pushing the a capella boundaries.

INVERSION—Ruth Stockdale (flute) and Robert Smith (organ)

Inversion was formed by Robert and Ruth in 2002 whilst they were both at Trinity College of Music. They first performed around London as a Flute and Piano Duo, but after a series of rehearsals in the Old Royal Naval College Chapel using the organ, they decided to form their unique Flute and Organ Duo. The different and changeable tone colours on the flute can be echoed and blended on the organ due to the organ’s matched use of air and pipes.

The Gaslights are a group of friends from the Maidenhead and Reading area who entertain groups, lunch clubs, and in nursing homes. We were formed in the 1960’s as The Gaslight Gaieties, but adopted the new name when we changed to our present form some 20 years ago.

We now perform mainly Old Tyme Musical songs, deriving much pleasure from singing to a variety of audiences, performing in Edwardian-style costumes and the dresses made by one of our members.
